Shaman are the witches among tribal peoples, a healer who owes his/her powers to communion with the spirits. The shaman shields his villiage or clan from the destructive spirits by rendering these spirits harmless. He/she usually receives this power from a spirit whom he/she cannot refuse. The shaman occupies a position of great power and prestige in his tribe, village or clan.
